Colin Coke’s studio is in Collingwood, Golden Bay, overlooking the Ruataniwha Inlet. Colin is an English-trained artist and former teacher whose principal work is printing in the linocut medium. The subject matter is drawn from his immediate surroundings, Collingwood and Golden Bay in general and also influenced by Japanese wood block masters. He has recently exhibited in Paris in the 2009 'Gravure Passion' exhibition and his works are held in corporate and private collections in New Zealand and overseas. His linocuts are in very limited editions and, by the nature of the process, are virtually unrepeatable. Each print is individually inked, so no two prints are exactly the same. The multiple colours are achieved by printing a colour on top of the previous one and cutting away the block each time to reveal the colour beneath.
